The Gallery Choir was formed in 2003 by a group of friends who enjoy singing, and share an interest in English choral music, as well as a love of the countryside and traditions of the area where we all live - in the Pewsey Vale in Wiltshire. The 4 members of the choir have all sung in a variety of different groups in the past - from college chapel and cathedral choirs, and chamber groups - through to folk and jazz groups where the venue was more likely to be a local pub.

We sing unaccompanied four-part choral music, primarily English music, from Purcell and Morley through to Wiltshire folk songs - specially arranged. Over the past couple of years we have sung at Woodborough, Stanton St.Bernard and Alton Priors churches, at Devizes Museum, St. John's Church Devizes and Devizes Books (Handel House) and even at the Woodborough Garden Centre.

More recently we have teamed up Clare and Matthew Wiles who add some beautiful instrumental textures to some of the songs and allow us to indulge in the odd solo or two!

We are looking forward to singing next in Stanton St.Bernard in June and then somewhere local in the autumn.

Some recent performances were at:

Woodborough Church Xmas 06, carol service and subsequent festive singalong!

The Devizes Festival on 4th June in St John's Church. Our programme included 16th and 17th century madrigals and songs with a summer theme, as well as a selection of traditional folk songs and rounds - from Wiltshire and beyond. We also included some readings of contemporary views of rural music and life in 18th and 19th century England.

The Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes on 6th December 05 when, amongst other things, we sang music from the museum library, written locally in the eighteenth century and which may not have been performed for 150 years!

Also, Stanton St.Bernard Church on 15th October05 as part of a varied evening of music by local people to raise funds for the church. We sang 5 Wiltshire folk songs which follow the agricultural year.

A full unaccompanied evensong at Alton Priors to help raise funds for the beautiful Saxon church in July 2005.
