Minutes of the previous meeting held on 28th February 2001 having been circulated, were confirmed as a true record and signed by the Chairman.


Millennium Committee: No news.

Allington Corner: No news

Recycle bins; No news


Village Hall: Finances are in good order. The playgroup is struggling to pay rent and is being allowed an extension. The electric meter is due to be fixed.

PCC: AGM is to be held on 24th April. They are looking at ways to encourage more attendance and use of the Church.

FtPs: All Footpaths, Bridleways and Rights of Way are still closed county wide due to Foot and Mouth disease.

Transport: Meeting due in the Village Hall on April 4th 5.30pm – 7.30pm, concerning rural transport, the public are invited to voice ideas and concerns.

Leisure Facilities:
Play Area: Cycle Track is awaiting good weather before being commenced. The Clerk has looked into the cost of a sign for this area and found it should be approximately £20 -£30.
Mr Game will be fencing the area to the back of the Adventure Trail to stop children injuring themselves on the barbed wire as per ROSPA inspection recommendations. Playground Services have carried out the work and will be paid out of meeting.

Dog Fouling: A letter regarding the increased amount of dog fouling was received from Mr & Mrs Gay. The Clerk has arranged to get more dog poop bags from Kennet and make these available at the Village Hall and Post Office.

School Fete: All Cannings School have asked if they could use The Green as part of the fete on Saturday 23rd June. No charge will be made.

Bobby Van Trust : A letter requesting a donation was received. No donation will be given under the council’s Section 137 policy.

Rural White Paper: A meeting to discuss this paper is to be held at the corn Exchange on Saturday 19th May at a cost of £ 7.50

Green hire Fee: Devizes Junior Football £10.00

WDS Ground Maintenance: A letter notifying the council that WDS is to be externalised to a private company on June 1st. Our contract is due for renewal from April 1st and will be carried out as usual until June 3rd at a cost of £ 251.64 plus VAT. It was proposed by Mr Daw and seconded by Mrs Currie that this is accepted and that an alternative company be sought for the remainder of the financial year.

Cemetery: Two railings at the rear of the Cemetery are missing it was suggested that the Clerk contact Mr Fell or Mr Perry who might be able to help replace them.

Hole: A hole on the side of Chandlers Lane on the Green side has appeared and part of the concrete surround on a drain on the same side has come away. The Clerk will report them to the Clarence line.

Water tap: The box surrounding the water tap in the Cemetery need its hinges replacing the Clerk will organise their replacement.
